- A note on witch hazel: Witch Hazel is a plant derived water in which it is extracted by steam distillation. This means it is actually a water, therefore it must be preserved. There are 3 ways it is preserved, by alcohol, parabens, or benzoic acid. Most witch hazel in stores are preserved using isopropyl alcohol, which can be very drying to the skin; and parabens have been linked to cancer. The most natural form of witch hazel available is preserved with benzoic acid, which is used in our products. It has a .15% concentration, making it 99.85% naturally plant derived.
